Explore Winter Park Ski Resort

Winter Park, Mary Jane, and the resort’s other mountains (including Vasquez Ridge, Parsenn Bowl, and Eagle Wind) usually make the list of North America’s best ski and snowboard areas. They’re connected by lifts and runs, so people of different skill levels all can find slopes suited to their abilities, making the Winter Park area ideal for families and groups.

Together, the mountains offer 3,000 acres (1,240 hectares) and 166 designated trails. Winter Park’s base area sits at about 9,000 feet above sea level (2,740 meters), but its highest lift, atop Parsenn Bowl) reaches over 12,000 feet above sea level (3,657 meters). Drink plenty of water and take it easy until you get used to the altitude.

Although most of Winter Park caters to families, it boasts plenty of advanced slopes. Mary Jane has the most advanced lift-served terrain, with steep runs that extend from mountain top to base area, so deserves its reputation for requiring high-level athletic skills and strong leg muscles. Expert-level winter athletes can check out the snowcat skiing and boarding on The Cirque, too, or play on the terrain park.

Travel to Wonderful Winter Park with Mountain Car Service

In good weather, the 70-mile drive from Denver International Airport to Winter Park takes about 1.45 hours, but the road climbs over a high mountain pass with lots of sharp curves and a steep descent, so you’ll be glad our experienced, professional driver is at the wheel. You’ll certainly want to gaze out the window to enjoy the breath-taking scenery:

  • See the Continental Divide framed by a scenic bridge;
  • Look for wild buffalo (American bison) just off the roadside;
  • Search for other wildlife such as elk and big horn sheep;
  • Pass by historic mining towns;
  • Turn off Interstate 70 onto historic U.S. Highway 40;
  • Experience dramatic vistas as the road curves up to Berthoud Pass at 11,300 feet (3,444 meters);
  • Wonder at the rugged landscape near timberline, terrain at such a high elevation that trees cannot grow;
  • Cross the Continental Divide, which separates river drainages that flow to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans;
  • Also cross the Continental Divide Trail, a 3,000-mile hiking path that extends from the Canadian border to the boundary with Mexico;
  • Descend the twisting road into the lovely Fraser River Valley.

The Winter Park ski area offers lessons for children and adults of all abilities, full gear rentals, and tuning for skis and snowboards. Or, you can book a vehicle specifically to transport your own ski and snowboard gear with Mountain Car Service.
